Gogaku-Zantsuji Kwanchi-in Temple is a separate head temple of Zentsuji Temple, the head temple of the Shingon sect of Buddhism.
Founded by Kobo Daishi in 807. Separate head temple of Zenzuji Temple. The principal image of the temple is the eleven-faced Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, a hidden Buddha. The principal mantra of the temple is Onmaka Caronika Sohaka. Located between the To-in and Sei-in temples of Zenzu-ji Temple, it was the first of the 49 temples in the area and was known as Juzenbo. In the middle ages, the name of the temple was changed to Kwanchiin. In 1913, the temple was completely destroyed by fire. The present building was reconstructed in 1925 by Heikichi Ohirakichi, a master builder who was involved in the construction of the Zentsuji Pagoda. To the west of the temple grounds is the Eternal Ossuary (Manryo-do) and cemetery, and to the east is the Jizo-do (stone statues of Enmei Jizo Bosatsu and Kari-teimonoson). This is the 25th temple of Sanuki Sanjusan Kannon Sacred Ground. Ouiga (poem): Every time I pray, a lotus flower flutters in my heart, and I am glad to see the Koyasu Kannon
It is affectionately called “Koyasu Kannon”.
The main statue of the eleven-faced Kannon was moved in 1919 from Daigoji Temple, where the daughter of Lord Matsudaira of the Takamatsu Domain had a hermitage. Since then, the statue has been worshipped by women and children, and is affectionately called Koyasu Kannon as a guardian deity for childbirth, safe childbirth, and child rearing. The shrine offers a variety of items such as Sazuke-dama, a crystal crystal for childbirth, a prayer card for safe delivery, an amulet for safe delivery, a belt for safe delivery, and a child protection charm. Prayer cards for safe delivery are available by mail or in person at the main hall.
